Medical Insurance Billing and Coding Specialist are responsible for processing patient data such as treatment records and related insurance information. Medical Insurance Billers and Coders, are given the task of coding a patent’s diagnosis along with requesting payments from the patient’s insurance company. As an MIBC specialist, some of your duties may include:

Accurately locating documentation in the patient record to support coding and billing process
Assigning codes for diagnoses and procedures
Submitting claims for reimbursement based on payer policies and procedures
Coaching providers on the best documentation practices to support quality coding and optimal reimbursement

*Employment of health information technicians is projected to grow 22 percent from 2012 to 2022, and the number of medical insurance billing and coding positions is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations. The demand for health services is expected to increase as the population ages.
